Health Department Shuts Down Pittsburgh-Area Convenience Store-Restaurant
An Allegheny County Health Department inspection of this Pittsburgh-area convenience store and restaurant uncovered unpleasant things.

PITTSBURGH, PA — The Allegheny County Health Department has shut down the Grandview Convenience Store on Grandview Avenue in McKeesport for numerous health code violations. The store has a food area and is classified as a restaurant by the health department.
An inspection on Tuesday found roaches in various life stages in the chest freezer in kitchen, a two-door preparation cooler, a hot dog warmer and in an employee restroom in the basement. A significant accumulation of roach droppings were noted in fryer cabinet.
Glue traps dated November 17 at the corners of the front window on restaurant side, behind a chest freezer adjacent to basement door, at the corners of a walk-in cooler and in basement toilet room observed with several roaches of various life stages. Live roaches observed in all glue traps on restaurant side and basement.

Additionally, cooked ground meat observed in a cooler was moldy.
The health department said that for the closure to be lifted, no evidence of live or dead roach activity may remain.

A "closed" placard is posted at an establishment when an imminent health hazard is identified at a restaurant or kitchen or if it has been operating without proper permits. It is unlawful to operate a food facility with a "closed" placard.
