Iconic Pittsburgh Sports Bar To Be Rebranded, Remain Open

One of Pittsburgh's most popular sports bars will transition to a new concept under new ownership.

PITTSBURGH, PA — Despite last week's announcement that Redbeard's Sports Bar & Grill on Mt. Washington would close on Dec. 19, the tavern will remain open under new ownership as it undergoes a full rebrand.

Co-owners Joey DeMarco and Brian Hess announced Wednesday that their establishment will be known as Shiloh Plate & Pour. While the full rebrand is slated for April, the updates will begin immediately and will include new kitchen equipment and a new menu.

DeMarco and his business partner Erik Sweterlitsch opened the bar 30 years ago under the Redbeard's Mountain Resort and Yacht Club moniker. DeMarco retained ownership of the building after Len Semplice took over as Redbeard's owner.

DeMarco and Hess have been friends for 20 years and first met at Redbeard's.

“Mt. Washington is a special place for both of us,” said Joey DeMarco. “This is where our friendship began, and now we get to bring it full circle. To come back here as partners and breathe new life into this space—it’s a dream come true. We can’t wait to show everyone what we’ve got in store.”

Current employees will stay on board to ensure a smooth transition, while new team members are set to join as the restaurant evolves. Renovations will be underway over the next few months, but Shiloh Plate & Pour will remain open, inviting guests to experience the transformation as it happens.

To celebrate this new chapter, a special event is being planned for all past and present Redbeard's customers. This will be your chance to honor the location’s rich history while embracing its future. Details will be announced soon!

“This isn’t just a bar or restaurant—it’s going to be a great place to gather for the community,” Hess said. “Shiloh Plate & Pour will be where people gather to celebrate everything Pittsburgh—whether it’s for a Steelers, Penguins, or Pirates game, a meal with friends, or just soaking up the amazing energy and culture of the city.”
