KDKA-AM Wins Prestigious National Award
The world's first commercical radio station has snagged the radio industry's top honor. Patch provides the details.
PITTSBURGH, PA — KDKA-AM has won a prestigious NAB Marconi Radio Award, being named 2024 News-Talk Station of the Year. A Marconi is the highest honor in the radio industry.
Named after Guglielmo Marconi, the inventor of the radio and a Nobel Prize winner, the Marconi Awards began in 1989. KDKA was nominated, alongside stations from across the country for this award voted on by the Marconi Radio Awards Selection Academy.
“We are beyond humbled and honored to receive the highest recognition in the radio business, it is a special moment in the storied history of KDKA,” Michael Spacciapolli, senior vice president and market manager for Audacy Pittsburgh, said in a statement on the station's website.

The world's first commercial radio station, KDKA's first broadcast was the November 1920 presidential election returns in the race between Warren G. Harding and James Cox.
