Legendary Pirates Hall Of Famer Dies

A Pittsburgh Pirates all-time great has died, the team announced.

PITTSBURGH, PA — Another member of the Pirates' last World Championship team has died.

Former National League MVP player Dave Parker, who helped lead the team to the pinnacle of Major League Baseball in the 1979 season, died on Saturday.

Parker, nicknamed "The Cobra," was 74. He had been suffering from Parkinson's disease.

The Pirates announced his death on X.

Parker died just a month before his formal induction into the baseball Hall of Fame in Cooperstown NY.

In addition to his 11 seasons in a Pirates uniform from 1973-83, Parker also played for the Cincinnati Reds from 1984-87; the Oakland Athletics in 1988-89; the Milwaukee Brewers in 1990 and the Anaheim Angels in Toronto Blue Jays in 1991.

He was a seven-time All-Star, a three-time Gold Glove Award winner, a three-time Silver Slugger Award Winner and a two-time batting champion.

The Pirates paid tribute to Parker before their game against the New York Mets on Saturday.

Parker will be inducted posthumously into the Hall of Fame in July.
