Man Slain At Pittsburgh Apartment Complex With Public Nuisance Charge

A man was killed Tuesday night at a Pittsburgh-area apartment complex facing a public nuisance charge.

PITTSBURGH, PA — A man was shot to death Tuesday night in a West Mifflin apartment complex that the Allegheny County District Attorney's office had charged with being a public nuisance a day earlier.

According to Allegheny County police, county 911 was notified shortly after 10 p.m. of shots fired at Mon View Heights. First responders found a man suffering from multiple gunshot wounds.

The victim, Nathaniel Walker, 54, was pronounced dead at the scene.

On Monday, District Attorney Stephen Zappala filed the public nuisance charge, alleging Mon View Apartments LLC has consistently failed to make necessary improvements since purchasing the complex last year. Out of 129 units code enforcement crews inspected this summer, 96 failed to pass inspection.

Additionally,the West Mifflin Police Department responded to more than 400 calls at the complex between March 24 and Sept. 24 and made more than 60 arrests for crimes such as drug violations, sexual assault, aggravated assault and child endangerment.
