Owner Of Popular Pittsburgh Restaurant Dies

The owner of a well-known Pittsburgh eatery has passed away.

PITTSBURGH, PA — Ashley "Popie" Wilson, who owned the popular barbecue spot Popie Redd's in the Braddock Hills Shopping Center, has died.

Wilson's death was announced in a social media post by state Rep. Abigail Salisbury, whose efforts to help keep Popie Redd's afloat last year when Wilson was experiencing financial difficulties last year received news coverage from WTAE-TV.

"So many people showed up for Popie in his time of need and believed in his dream of operating his barbecue restaurant in Braddock Hills," Salisbury wrote. "We remember him for his dream, for his tenacity, and for his spirit. We were lucky to have the chance to know him."
