PA Turnpike Expands Toll Payment Options

The Pennsylvania Turnpike is making it easier for motorists to pay their tolls. Get the details here.

PENNSYLVANIA — Pennsylvania Turnpike motorists now have additional ways to pay for trips on the toll highway. The turnpike commission announced this week that Google Pay and Apple Pay are the newest payment methods.

Motorists can access the mobile payment options through the turnpike's app, PA Toll Pay, which reached two million downloads in May. The app is available in the Apple Store and on Google Play.

Turnpike officials contend that the new payment additions provide a faster, easier and more secure method for paying tolls. Both payment options can be used to make one-time payments but not auto-replenishment.

“These new payment options deliver what the majority of our customers want: seamless and convenient mobility,” Turnpike CEO Mark Compton said in a statement. “Our customers have a clear preference for electronic payments, and the Pennsylvania Turnpike Commission is dedicated to understanding and meeting their evolving needs.”

E-ZPass remains the most cost-effective way to pay turnpike tolls, as its rates are half the cost of toll-by-plate charges. Google Pay also is available for motorists paying through the E-Z Pass website.
