Pittsburgh Offers Free Grass Cutting To Seniors, Vets, Others

PITTSBURGH, PA — The Pittsburgh City Cuts program is returning this year will provide free lawn cutting services to older residents, veterans, and individuals with disabilities who might face challenges maintaining their lawns.
The program is designed to ensure that those who lack the means or resources to cut their grass receive support throughout the summer and early fall months.
"The City Cuts program is a testament to our commitment to supporting every Pittsburgher, especially our older residents, veterans, and those living with disabilities," Mayor Ed Gainey said in a statement. "This service is a small but meaningful way to help our neighbors maintain their homes with dignity and ease."

City Cuts service will be offered twice a month starting in May, weather permitting, and will continue from summer through mid-fall. The program aims to assist residents who meet certain qualifications and lack the social or financial means to maintain their lawns. To be eligible, applicants must:
- Reside within the City of Pittsburgh limits.
- Own the property or be responsible for the grass cutting of the property.
- Have difficulty cutting their own lawn due to age, disability, or financial hardship.
Additionally, applicants must meet one or more of the following criteria:

- Be 62 years of age or older.
- Be a veteran.
- Have a disability that prevents them from cutting grass.
- Be at or below 150 percent of the Federal Poverty Guideline.
Service availability is limited, and applications will be processed on a first-come, first-served basis. Eligible people are urged to apply early. The application deadline is April 21st.
