Popular Pittsburgh TV Personality Leaves Broadcasting
One of Pittsburgh's most well-known TV personalities is leaving her station, but not for a position elsewhere.
PITTSBURGH, PA — Emmy Award winning KDKA-TV personality Celina Pompeani Mathison has departed the broadcasting world.
Pompeani Mathison, the "Pittsburgh Today Live" lifestyles reporter, announced on Friday's program that the day's show would be her last. Her departure was triggered by a desire to spend more time with her young son, Sonny.
Telling program co-hosts Heather Abraham and David Highfield that it was the hardest decision she has made, she said of her son: "Every time I have to leave his face, it's so hard for me. Every time I have to leave his face, it's so hard for me. I love being home with him and I never want to miss the big moments, the little ones too."

According to her page on the station website, Pompeani Mathison's local news career began in 2013 when she was hired by WTOV-TV In Steubenville, Ohio, while she was a senior at Point Park University.
In 2014, she was hired by the Pittsburgh Penguins as in-arena host and PensTV host. She continued to work for the Penguins through the end of the 2022-23 hockey season.

Pompeani Mathison joined the KDKA morning news team in 2017 as morning traffic anchor and held that role until transitioning to "Pittsburgh Today Live."
Pompeani Mathison is the daughter of KDKA sports director Bob Pompeani.
