For Sale: One Of Pittsburgh's Largest Malls

If you're looking to purchase a slightly used shopping mall, one in Pittsburgh is on the market.

MONROEVILLE, PA — The owner of Monroeville Mall, a staple for shoppers in Pittsburgh's eastern suburbs for more than half a century, has put the retail complex on the market.

Tennessee-based CBL Properties, which owns 56 malls, outlets and lifestyle centers across the country has hired JLL to market the mall. An asking price is not listed in materials the company has posted online.

The asset description describes the super-regional mall that sits on 186 acres and is composed of the main mall, The Annex at Monroeville, The District at Monroeville and outparcels Best Buy and Firestone. The anchors are Macy's, JCPenney, Dick's Warehouse, Full Throttle Adrenaline Park, Dick's Sporting Goods and Cinemark.

The mall has 1.2 million square feet of retail space.

JLL's marketing materials say the property offers redevelopment optionality and presents a "rare redevelopment opportunity of +100 acres in (a) dense commercial corridor." Another plus cited in the materials is that the mall has one of the most accessible locations in the Pittsburgh region.

The mall opened in May 1969 with Gimbels, Joseph Horne Co. and JCPenney as the anchors. It had an ice rink for years that later was turned into the mall food court.

The mall was renovated in 2003.
