Teen Accused Of Opening Fire At Pittsburgh School

A teenager has been charged with shooting at a group of students Tuesday outside of a Pittsburgh school.

PITTSBURGH, PA — A teenager is facing dozens of charges after allegedly opening fire outside of Perry Traditional Academy in the city's Perry North Section on Tuesday.

Micaiah Wheeler, 17, was taken into custody around 7 p.m. in the Hill District. He was arrested about 11 hours after police were dispatched to the school for an 11-round ShotSpotter alert.

No injuries were reported. However, there was bullet damage to the school, including two broken windows and some damage to the brick work.

Pittsburgh Public Safety officials said cameras in the area were reviewed to make a positive ID on the suspect.

According to online court records, Wheeler has been charged with eight counts each of attempted homicide, aggravated assault and reckless endangerment; causing or risking a catastrophe; discharging a firearm into an occupied structure; carrying a firearm without a license; possession of a firearm by a minor and possession of a weapon on school property.

Wheeler was denied bail and is being housed in the Allegheny County Jail. He faces a preliminary hearing on Dec. 27.
