UPMC Children's Hospital: How It Fared In New U.S. News Rankings

PITTSBURGH, PA — UPMC Children's Hospital of Pittsburgh is one of the nation's top pediatric centers in the nation's Mid-Atlantic Region, according to the latest U.S. News & World Reports Best Children's Hospitals rankings released Tuesday.
The Lawrenceville hospital was ranked third in the region, tied with New York City's New York-Presbyterian Children's Hospital-Columbia and Baltimore's Johns Hopkins Children's Center. Children's Hospital of Philadelphia and Children's National Hospital in Washington, D.C. took the top slots in the regional ranking.
U.S. News now evaluates 11 pediatric specialties in ranking children's hospitals. The latest edition of Best Children’s Hospitals debuts the evaluation of a new specialty, behavioral health.

“When confronted with the daunting task of selecting a hospital for their child's specialized medical needs, parents and caregivers can use U.S. News' evaluation of pediatric hospital performance as a valuable resource,” Ben Harder, chief of health analysis and managing editor at U.S. News, said in a release.

- Diabetes/endrocrinology (ranked 8th).
- Pulmonary/lung surgery (ranked 8th).
- Urology (ranked 11th).
- Nephrology (ranked 12th).
- Gastroenterology/GI surgery (ranked 12th).
- Cardiology/heart surgery (ranked 14th).
- Pediatric cancer (ranked 17th).
- Neonatology (ranked 31st).
- Orthopedics (ranked 33rd).
For the 2024-2025 rankings, U.S. News, together with RTI International, a North Carolina-based research and consulting firm, collected and analyzed data from 108 children’s hospitals and surveyed thousands of pediatric specialists.
