Winter Storm Barreling Toward Pittsburgh, Western PA

The first accumulating snow of the winter season is on its way. Get the details here.

PITTSBURGH, PA — It's time to break out the shovel and ice melt. The initial snowstorm of winter is heading toward Pittsburgh and likely will impact all of Western Pennsylvania.

The National Weather Service has issued a Winter Weather Advisory for the entire region from midnight tonight until 1 p.m. on Tuesday. Total snow accumulations are expected to be between 2 and 5 inches.

Snow is expected to arrive after midnight, with the heaviest accumulations occurring between 4 a.m. and 8 a.m. Widespread snow should rapidly end late morning, with lingering showers diminishing through the afternoon.

The weather service is advising people to plan on slippery road conditions. Hazardous conditions will impact the Tuesday morning commute.

The weather service is requesting that people report snow or ice accumulations by calling 412-262-1988, posting to the NWS Pittsburgh Facebook page, or using X @NWSPittsburgh.
