Solar Power for Barrington DPW Garage?

The Energy Committee and Town Planner are working to make this type of project a reality.

Providing electricity with solar panels for the Barrington public works facility on Upland Way is being explored.

There is money in the fiscal year 2014 budget, said Andrea Mosher, chair of the Barrington Energy Committee. And Town Planner Phil Hervey is talking with the RI Department of Environmental Management about state grants for such a project.

Hervey also is preparing a request for proposal (RFP) for the project, said Mosher.

“It’s probably the item on our agenda that is the most farther along,” she said.

Mosher was referring to the agenda for the Energy Committee’s meeting tonight, Sept. 18, in the Barrington Public Library. The meeting starts at 7:30 pm.

Several other solar projects are on the agenda, including a solar workshop being considered sometime this fall and a solar-powered water pump at the proposed community garden near Vitullo Farm off of the Wampanoag Trail.

“There is a well at that location,” Mosher said.

Using a solar-powered pump for water to irrigate the garden is another definite possibility, she said.

Here is the complete agenda for tonight’s meeting:
