Cranston Police To Hold Memorial Honoring Fallen Officers

The ceremony is set for Tuesday morning in front of the Cranston Police Department.

CRANSTON, RI—Cranston police marched in Newport in the parade to honor the officers killed in the line of duty in 2017. Tuesday morning at 10, the police hold another ceremony, this time in Cranston in front of the police headquarters. The public is invited to attend.

“Every year we come together to honor heroic officers from the Cranston Police Department and from across the nation who made the ultimate sacrifice, as well as those officers who continue to serve despite the inherent risks associated with the profession," Col. Michael J. Winquist said. "This year has been a solemn one in New England in particular, with the loss of Sergeant and K-9 Officer Sean Gannon of the Yarmouth (MA) Police Department, and most recently Corporal Eugene Cole of the Somerset County (ME) Sheriff’s Office. These Officers will never be forgotten and our prayers are with their families, friends and Officers from their respective police departments.”

Winquist, the Cranston police chief, will deliver the keynote address, the police department said. Mayor Allan W. Fung will also speak, and the Cranston Police Honor Guard will conduct the ceremonial honors.
