"I'm running for governor because I believe the future of our state is hanging in the balance, and we must build a new, modern, resilient economy that gives every Rhode Islander a real chance to succeed," Magaziner said. "Now is the time to bridge divisions and to move past the old ways of doing things. We must seize this moment to build the future that Rhode Islanders deserve."

Magaziner announced his candidacy at Henry J. Winters Elementary School. The school is under construction, part of the plan drawn up by Magaziner during his time in office. To date, the program has allocated about $1.4 billion to schools, Magaziner's campaign said.
