URI inducts 15 retired faculty, staff members into Lifetime Service Society (uri.edu) — An East Providence resident, Gayla Gazerro, was among 15 longtime University of Rhode Island employees inducted into the school’s Lifetime Service Society for more than four decades of service. Honorees received engraved bricks to be placed outside URI’s main library, with colleagues praising their deep impact on students, research, and campus life across Rhode Island.

2. Women's Advent Retreat a reminder that we are never alone (anchornews.org) — An East Providence Catholic musician, Liz Cotrupi Pfunder, helped lead more than 280 women in worship and song at a recent Advent retreat on Cape Cod, underscoring the spiritual gifts coming from our city. The day blended Mass, confession, adoration, and talks on anxiety, healing, and God’s constant presence, leaving participants better prepared for Christmas and already looking ahead to next year’s gathering.

3. 18 Displaced By Central Falls Fire: Reports (patch.com) — East Providence firefighters were among several departments called in to help battle a major early-morning fire in a Central Falls multifamily home that displaced 18 residents. Everyone, including a dog, escaped safely and no injuries were reported, but the blaze forced 16 adults and two babies from the Mary Street building while investigators work to confirm it began in the basement.

4. 'Ella McCay' opens Friday but RI cast and crew got an early look (providencejournal.com) — Scenes for the new James L. Brooks film “Ella McCay” were shot in several Rhode Island communities, including East Providence, before cast and crew got an early screening in Providence this week. Local residents who worked on the production describe favorite moments, from fake rain at the State House to neighborhood sets that may look familiar when the movie opens nationwide.
