Raising Cane's In Johnston Gives Scholarship To Teen Who Saves A Life

JOHNSTON, RI — Raising Cane's in Johnston awarded a senior at Chariho High School a $10,000 scholarship after she saved a man's life at the fast food chicken restaurant.

Chaia Elwell, 18, was eating at the restaurant earlier this month, when she saw a man choking. WPRI 12 reported she rushed to the man and performed the Heimlich maneuver, successfully clearing his airway. Elwell told the television station she will use the money to help pay for nursing school

"I really just stepped in to help the man because I wanted him to live," Elwell told WPRI 12. "I can’t believe [Raising Cane’s] gave me that much money."
