After Record Breaking Warmth, Snow On The Way To Rhode Island

At 62 degrees, Providence broke the previous high temperature record of 61 degrees set in 1999.

RHODE ISLAND — It's another rollercoaster weather weekend in Rhode Island. After breaking high temperature records with a springlike day on Saturday, parts of the state could see as much as three inches of snow accumulation by Sunday night.

Providence reached a high of 62 degrees on Saturday, beating the previous record of 61 degrees set in 1999. Boston, Massachusetts and Windsor Locks, Connecticut also saw record-breaking warmth, as well, breaking their respective records set the same year.

Much different weather is in the forecast for Sunday, with light snow in the forecast throughout the day. By 7 p.m., coastal areas could see as much as three inches of accumulation, with lesser amounts further inland.

Cape Cod and Eastern Massachusetts will see the bulk of the winter weather, with a winter weather advisory in effect across the area throughout the day Sunday.

After a 30-degree temperature drop from Saturday afternoon, the first flakes are expected to arrive in Rhode Island overnight, continuing all day and tapering off into the later evening hours. Another slight chance of snow will come early Monday morning.
