Community Event to Help Parents Get Kids Ready for School
East Bay Community Action Program to give backpacks, school supplies to youth 18/younger and COVID-19 vaccine clinic for people ages 12/+

In celebration of National Health Center Week East Bay Family Health Care, a division of East Bay Community Action Program, is helping parents get their kids ready for school by giving away backpacks and offering a COVID-19 vaccine clinic at an upcoming community event. The drive-thru backpack giveaway event is open to all youth ages 18 and younger and it will be held on Saturday, August 14, from 11 am to 2 pm, rain or shine, at 6 John H. Chafee Blvd., Newport, RI.
People may drive-thru or walk up to pick up their free backpack and school supplies. No registration is necessary. The backpacks and school supplies are provided by Back to School Celebration RI which has been coordinating the statewide event for more than 20 years.
East Bay Family Health Care will also be offering the COVID-19 vaccine onsite to anyone 12 years of age and older who would like to be vaccinated. Registration is recommended but walk-ins will also be accepted. Youth receiving the vaccine will be entered to win an iPad.
