Eco-Depot Event for Hazardous and E-Waste Comes to Newport
A special free event is coming to Easton's Beach on Oct. 1 for residents to get rid of old computers, TVs, paint, oil and more.

NEWPORT, RI—A special collection for hazardous household and electronic waste is planned for Oct. 1 at Easton's Beach in Newport.
From 8 a.m. to 1 p.m., residents can come to dispose of old computers and televisions, fluorescent light bulbs, pesticides, oil-based paints, used motor oil and pool chemicals, among other items.
The event is hosted by Rhode Island Resource Recovery and Clean City Newport and is free of charge to Rhode Island residents.

Last year, the event led to residents dropping off a staggering 12.8 tons of household hazardous waste.
“Eco-Depot is a wonderful free service for RI residents,” said Maureen McManus, Newport’s Clean City Program Coordinator. “We hope Newport residents take full advantage of this outstanding opportunity to safely dispose of electronic and household hazardous waste at the Beach!”

Before you load up the car and head to the beach, take note of these key details:
- Appointments should be made in advance for household hazardous waste. Appointments for e-waste is not required.
- Only the following e-waste will be accepted: computer towers, monitors, laptops, tablets and televisions.
- Household hazardous waste is: fluorescent light bulbs, gasoline, pesticides, oil-based paints, disinfectants, used motor oil and lawn and pool chemicals. When not properly collected and disposed, these materials can cause harm to the local environment by contaminating Rhode Island’s waterways.
