Fake Crosswalk Painted On Street In Newport

The fake crosswalk poses a safety hazard because it obscures the stop bar at the intersection of Harrison and Roseneath avenues.

NEWPORT, RI — A new crosswalk on a Newport street should never have been painted; it is fake, according to city officials.

City officials said Wednesday that someone painted a fake crosswalk along Harrison Avenue. The "crosswalk" poses a safety hazard because it obscures the stop bar at the intersection at Roseneath Avenue, city officials said.

Crews will soon remove the fake crosswalk, but drivers and pedestrians are urged to be careful in the meantime.
