Fishing Boat Sinks Off Martha's Vineyard: Coast Guard

The Coast Guard on Wednesday rescued four people from a boat off Martha's Vineyard.

BOSTON — A fishing boat sank Wednesday night about 18 miles off Martha's Vineyard, the Coast Guard said. An aircrew rescued four people aboard the Sea Star. They were flown to Air Station Cape Cod and are reported in good condition.

According to the Coast Guard, the trouble started around 6:20 p.m., when the captain radioed to say the boat was taking on water.

"Once it was determined the vessel could not be saved, the helicopter aircrew ordered the fishermen into the water and deployed a rescue swimmer to airlift the crew safely into the helicopter," the Coast Guard said. Mariners are being notified about the potential navigation hazard.
