High Bacteria Counts At Newport's King Park And Fort Adams Beaches

The Rhode Island Department of Health recommended closing the swimming areas.

NEWPORT, RI — High bacteria counts were discovered at Newport's King Park and Fort Adams beaches, according to the Rhode Island Department of Health.

The department of health on Friday recommended closing the swimming areas at both King Park and Fort Adams beaches due to the high bacteria counts.

"RIDOH will continue to monitor and review beach water quality through Labor Day," the department said in a media release. The status of a beach may change as new data become available."
