The Newport Canvassing Office will host a series of informational sessions next month for all those curious about how to run in November.

NEWPORT, RI — Are you thinking about running for office in Newport?

The Newport Canvassing Office will host a series of informational sessions next month for all those curious about how to throw their hat in the ring this November.

City officials said the information sessions will provide aspiring candidates with an overview of how to declare and run for office — from Newport’s non-partisan city council and school committee to the general assembly and beyond.

  • How and when to declare your candidacy
  • An overview of nomination papers — including collection, validation, certification, and challenges
  • District committees and endorsements
  • Withdrawing candidacy
  • Partisan primaries
  • Publicly available information, such as voter lists, street files, maps
  • Ballot placement lottery
  • Voter outreach.
