Middletown's Frosty Freez Delays 2022 Opening

Newport County residents and visitors will have to wait a little longer to get their first coffee soft serve of the year.

MIDDLETOWN, RI — Newport County residents will have to wait a little longer to visit a seasonal standby this year. Extenuating circumstances have caused the delayed opening of Middletown's Frosty Freez.

The ice cream stand, renowned for its coffee soft serve and other sweet treats, was scheduled to open for the season April 1. However, the business's owners were forced to delay due to production issues.

JP Hood, Frosty Freez's supplier, recently suffered a cyberattack that led to a temporary shutdown in production, read a message on the business's Facebook page.

"Our vendors are unable to tell us when they'll have our premium soft serve available," The statement read in part. "In addition, we're experiencing unforeseen equipment problems, and of course good ol' supply chain issues."

The store will hopefully start serving frozen treats within a few weeks of the planned opening, the owners said. An updated opening date will be announced as soon as more details are available.
