New Pavement, Sidewalks Being Completed Along Broadway In Newport

NEWPORT, RI — City officials warned Newport residents that Broadway between Bliss Road and Friendship Street is going to get busy because of construction along the road.

Construction started Thursday and will continue over the next several work days, city officials said. Cardi Corporation will pour new sidewalk and prepare the final coat of pavement along Broadway next week.

"A newly paved road and new sidewalks is just what our Public Services team wanted for Christmas, and we are currently awaiting the delivery and installation of new traffic and pedestrian signals at Friendship Street, new trees, and new signage to fully complete the project in 2023," a city spokesperson said in a statement.

The construction timeline is weather dependent.

While parking may be limited, all business will remain open during the project.
