Newport Burger Bender Returns

NEWPORT, RI — The Classic Coast will once again play host to the biggest burger contest in the region with the return of the 7th Annual Newport Burger Bender, taking place Friday through Feb. 25.

The 10-day battle of the burgers, which is sponsored by Discover Newport every year, showcases the wildest, most creative burgers from more than 50 restaurants throughout Newport and Bristol counties.

Featuring three categories: beef, non-beef and plant based, the burgers competing run the taste spectrum from the ‘Big Kahuna Burger’ from the Wharf Fish House, to ‘The Boujee Bison’ burger at The Cafe at The Chanler, to the ‘Bacon Beer Cheese Hopper’ a plant-based burger from Basil & Bunny.

"This is such a fun week for diners, and also for the restaurants,"contest organizer Julie Grant said. "We love how passionate and creative they get with their burger creations, names and excitement amongst their teams."

New this year, the Newport Burger Hall of Fame is honoring its first inductee, La Forge Casino, who was the "Beef Burger Champion" in 2018, 2019 and 2020. This coveted title is adorned to burgers who won "Best Burger" three times (non-consecutively) in the same category.

Diners will vote for their favorite burger online on Discover Newport's website or at participating restaurants using QR codes. Diners, chefs, and restaurateurs are all encouraged to interact throughout the event by using the hashtag #NewportBurgerBender on Instagram, TikTok, Facebook, and Twitter.
