Newport County Youth Chorus Offering Free After School Programs

The program is for elementary and middle school students. No audition or previous experience is necessary —​ just a love of singing.

NEWPORT, RI — The Newport County Youth Chorus is welcoming new singers for free after school programs this winter.

The program is for elementary and middle school students. No audition or previous experience is necessary — just a love of singing. Participants will learn music in a variety of styles and genres, as well as develop their vocal technique and musical skills.

The chorus programs begin the week of Jan. 23. Here are the program details for each age group:

  • Prep Chorus (second to fourth grade: 3:30 to 4:30 p.m., Tuesdays at St. Paul’s United Methodist, (12 Marlborough St., Newport) or 5:15 to 6:15 p.m., Thursdays at Calvary United Methodist Church (200 Turner Road, Middletown). Session are six weeks with a musical theme. Transportation is available from Pell Elementary School to St. Paul’s.
  • Middle School Ensemble (fifth to eighth grade): 3:30 to 5 p.m., Thursdays at Calvary United Methodist Church (200 Turner Road, Middletown). Sessions are eight weeks and include themes like "Discover Your Voice" and "Express Your Voice."
