Newport County Youth Chorus Offering Free After School Programs

Students will sing songs from around the world, learning about how different cultures incorporate music into their celebrations.

NEWPORT, RI — The Newport County Youth Chorus is welcoming new singers for free after school programs this fall.

This session is called "Songs of Celebration." Students will sing songs from around the world, learning about how different cultures incorporate music into their celebrations.

The six-week program is for elementary students. No audition or previous experience is necessary — just a love of singing. Participants will learn music in a variety of styles and genres, as well as develop their vocal technique and musical skills.

Prep chorus is offered to students in first grade through third grade, while pre-teen chorus is offered to students in fourth grade through sixth grade. The session begins Oct. 23. The program culminates in a shared performance on Dec. 9, with the Aquidneck Singers and Quorus.

Classes are offered at St. Paul's United Methodist Church in Newport on Tuesdays and Calvary United Methodist Church in Middletown on Thursdays. Transportation from Pell Elementary School to St. Paul's is available.
