NEWPORT, RI — An elementary school student in Newport will have a poem he wrote published.
Hudson Bowley, a second-grader at Claiborne Pell Elementary School, wrote the poem "Boy Pirate Ghost of Newport." It was among six poems selected to be published in the Rhode Island KIDS COUNT Factbook.
According to Rhode Island KIDS COUNT, Hudson’s poem was selected for being "a beautiful and creative expression of the many topics and issues we advocate for at Rhode Island KIDS COUNT."

The mission of the nonprofit Rhode Island KIDS COUNT is "to improve the health, safety, education, economic well-being, and development of Rhode Island’s children with a commitment to equity and the elimination of unacceptable disparities by race, ethnicity, disability, zip code, immigration status, neighborhood, and income."
