Newport Public Schools Closed Tuesday; Parking Ban: RI Winter Storm

NEWPORT, RI — Students in Newport Public Schools will not have school Tuesday, because of a snowstorm that is expected to hit the region.

Newport also announced a parking ban ahead of a winter storm expected to arrive early Tuesday morning.

The parking ban will be in effect from 9 a.m. Tuesday to 8 p.m. Tuesday.

Newport residents can help plows do their job by pulling all trash and recycling carts away from the street, along with basketball hoops or other items that block the street. Also, do not blow snow into the street from driveways.

Trash pickup will also be delayed one day in the city.

The storm timing will likely be between 1 a.m. Tuesday and 1 a.m. Wednesday. According to the forecast, the heaviest snow is expected between 10 a.m. and 3 p.m.

Seven to 13 inches of snow is forecasted for much of Rhode Island. Newport is not expected to get as much, but could still see 8 inches of snow, according to the National Weather Service.
