Newport Invites Residents To Discuss Improving Housing Stock In City
Newport city officials say the Feb. 22 meeting is expected to highlight Newport's so-called "missing middle" housing market.
NEWPORT, RI — The Newport Planning Department has invited residents to a special community conversation regarding potential strategies to bolster the city’s year-round housing stock.
The meeting, which is slated to kick off at 5 p.m. Feb. 22 in the second floor council chamber at Newport City Hall, will feature preliminary maps and data gathered with the help of Rhode Island Housing’s Municipality Technical Assistance Program (MTAP).
City officials said the meeting is expected to highlight Newport’s so-called "missing middle" housing market and serve as a starting point to develop policies that planners hope will provide additional housing opportunities for working families in the city.
