Newport Man Dies After Being Hit By Car While In Crosswalk
According to police, a 56-year-old Newport man struck the victim while they were crossing the street in a crosswalk on Broadway.
NEWPORT, RI — A 52-year-old Newport man died Monday night after being hit by a car while crossing the street, according to police.
Police said the crash happened around 10:23 p.m. According to police, a 56-year-old Newport man struck the victim while they were crossing the street in a crosswalk on Broadway at Bedlow Avenue.
Emergency responders rushed the victim to Rhode Island Hospital in Providence, but the pedestrian died shortly after arriving, police said. Newport police have not identified the victim or the driver.

Police said as of Tuesday morning, no criminal charges have been filed against the driver, but he was cited for right of way in a crosswalk (first offense) and operating without evidence of insurance.
Police said the crash remains under investigation. Newport police have urged any witnesses with information to call the department at 401-847-1306.
