Newport Man Smashes Xboxes after Rebuffed Sexual Advance: Police

The 28-year-old Newport man was charged a felony domestic violence charge after the incident early Wednesday morning.

NEWPORT, RI—Newport police charged a 28-year-old Park Holm man with domestic vandalism and domestic disorderly conduct on Wednesday after he allegedly smashed items in a woman’s apartment when his romantic advances were rebuffed.

According to a police report, Earle M. Silvia, of 83 Park Holm, was arrested by Middletown police not long after he left the apartment at around 2 a.m. where Newport police discovered smashed Xboxes and ripped blinds.

The victim told police that she was hanging out with Silvia and other people when he became upset after she declined his advances.

Silvia allegedly became enraged and threw items around the apartment before leaving the scene.

The woman told police that police had responded to the apartment for a previous domestic incident but no arrest was made.

Court records show Silvia has had several domestic arrests over the years. As a result, police charged him with domestic vandalism, third offense, a felony, and domestic disorderly conduct.

He was later released on surety bail and is due to return to court on March 31 for a Newport Attorney General screening conference.

Police said that the victim was provided with information about resources for victims of domestic violence.

A no-contact order was issued.
