Newport Man Struck By Driver Experiencing A Medical Emergency: Police
Newport police say a 50-year-old Middletown woman experienced a medical emergency while driving, veered off the road, and struck a man.
NEWPORT, RI — A Newport man suffered serious injuries after he was struck by a car driven by a Middletown woman experiencing a medical emergency, Newport police.
Police said the crash happened around 6:30 a.m. Wednesday, on the 190th block of J.T. Connell Highway. According to police, a 50-year-old Middletown woman experienced a medical emergency while driving, veered off the road, and struck a 58-year-old Newport man, who was walking on a nearby bike path.
Police said the man was rushed to Rhode Island Hospital in Providence and remains in serious condition. The driver was taken to Newport Hospital and is in stable condition, police said.

As of Wednesday, no charges have been filed against the driver. The cause of the crash remains under investigation.
