Newport Motorcycle Mayhem Leads To 2 Arrests: Cops

The motorcycle men menaced a motorist, police said.

NEWPORT, RI — Motorcycle men menaced a motorist in Newport and now two of them face criminal charges in connection with the incident, police said.

Walker Anderson, 20, of Portsmouth and Aydan Coelho 19, Westport, Massachusetts, were taken into custody following the incident Monday night, according to the Newport Police Department.

Shortly before 9:45 p.m. Monday on America's Cup Avenue near Thames Street, a driver "reported a group of 4 motorcyclists was following their vehicle (and) surrounded them while revving their motorcycle engines," the Newport police said in a media release. "The victim also reported damage to their vehicle had occurred from the group of disorderly motorcyclists."

Newport Police Officers' Michael Maggiacomo and Nathaniel Whipple made it to the area of America's Cup and Thames "as the motorcycles fled the area," the release said.

"Officer Whipple was able to locate one motorcyclist fleeing and conducted a motor vehicle stop, as Officer Maggiacomo arrived on scene with the victim and conducted his investigation," the release said.

Newport Detective Justin Vachon later identified two of the motorcycle men who then surrendered on Wednesday and Thursday, according to the release.

"The two were charged with disorderly conduct with one also receiving motor vehicle
citation charges as well," the release said. "The investigation is still pending on the
other two motorcyclists involved."
