Newport Named Among The 5 Most Haunted Towns In The U.S.,Today Says

NEWPORT, RI — When thinking of the most haunted places in the United States, places like Salem, Massachusetts or Sleepy Hollow, New York probably come to mind, given their rich histories as Halloween tourist destinations.

But according to NBC's Today, Rhode Island is home to one of the five most haunted towns in the nation. That town is Newport.

Known for its rich history and Victorian era mansions, Newport has plenty for paranormal enthusiasts to check out.

"The coastal town has ties to the 2022 film 'Hocus Pocus 2,'" Today wrote. "Though the sequel is set in Salem, Massachusetts, the filming took place in Rhode Island in various locations, including Newport's Washington Square and The Newport Colony House. Newport is also known for its historic mansions from the Gilded Age, and many host Halloween events throughout the season."

Today also highlighted four-hour ghost tours of Fort Adams, which explore its paranormal past.
