Newport Naval Bomb Unit Responds After Boston Explosions

A Navy bomb unit has been sent to Boston to assist after explosions went off at the Boston Marathon finish line.

A Naval Station Newport bomb unit was sent to Boston Monday to assist after two explosions went off at the Boston Marathon's finish line, reports The Associated Press. 

The Naval unit, which includes three members of a bomb-detection team, are assisting in the investigation and checking bags. 

A Newport resident remains in the hospital Tuesday after she was injured in the Boston Marathon bombing Monday afternoon.  Heather Abbott, originally from Lincoln, underwent surgery Monday night at Brigham and Women's Hospital in Boston, friends confirmed.
