Newport Offers Payment Plans For Utility Bills

The Department of Utilities has suspended interest accruals and charges for credit card transactions.

NEWPORT, RI — The city of Newport's Department of Utilities has set up payment plans for those in need. City officials are encouraging Newport, Middletown and Portsmouth customers to pay their bills if they are able to do so, or set up a payment plan.

Water and sewer bills can be paid online or by mail. If it is needed, residents can reach out to the department to set up a flexible payment plan, extending the due dates of past due balances. Call 401-845-5607 or email utilitybilling@cityofnewport.com.

The department has also suspended interest accruals on past due amounts, and is not charging transaction fees for payments by credit card. Both policies will be reevaluated in September.
