NEWPORT, RI — After being rescheduled four times for rain, the grand opening of Newport's first bicycle traffic garden arrived Tuesday.

Bike Newport, city officials, and partners joined together to create the traffic garden, new community space designed to help children learn to ride bicycles safely. The miniature streetscape near Miantonomi Park at 120 Hillside Avenue has roads, sidewalks, crosswalks, and roundabouts.

"The neighborhood has been super patient, helping us to keep it safe while the paint dried in all this weather," city officials said in a statement. "We're ready to have fun while learning and practicing safe cycling. Bring the whole family!"
