Newport Painting Broadway Green For St. Patrick's Day Parade
Newport City Hall marks the official starting point for the city's annual St. Patrick's Day parade.
NEWPORT, RI — Newport Mayor Xay Khamsyvoravong will join members of the city council and the St. Patrick's Day parade committee to paint a section of Broadway’s center divider line green outside of Newport City Hall later this week in preparation for the city's annual St. Patrick's Day parade.
Khamsyvoravong and City Councilor David Carlin will be joined by Fire Chief and Parade Grand Marshal Harp Donnell and St. Patrick’s Day parade committee Chair Dennis Sullivan to paint the ceremonial green stripe at 3:30 p.m., Wednesday.

Although the entire length of the parade won’t be striped, Newport's Public Services Department will also be applying green paint to the centerline that runs down Thames Street in the city’s historically Irish Fifth Ward neighborhood beginning at Narragansett Avenue later in the week.
