Newport Police: Thames Street Section To Be Closed Tuesday

NEWPORT, RI — National Grid will be doing gas main work on Tuesday on Thames Street near Dixon Street, Newport police said Friday. The crews will be digging in the middle of the street, so Thames Street will be impassable. Southbound traffic on Thames Street will have to take a detour onto Wellington Avenue.

The route is westbound on Wellington, then south on Marchant Street and then east on West Narragansett Avenue, police said. Officers will be on traffic detail to assist.

The work is scheduled to start after the morning commute.
