Newport School 2022 Report Cards: See How Each School Did

Rogers High School lost ground from 2019 in its 2022 report card grades, similar to several other Rhode Island schools.

NEWPORT, RI — For the first time since before the coronavirus pandemic, the Rhode Island Department of Education (RIDE) released report cards for hundreds of public schools across the Ocean State.

Rogers High School lost ground from 2019 in its 2022 report card grades, similar to several other Rhode Island schools. Other schools in the Newport district saw their report card grades stay the same.

RIDE uses the report cards as a measure of accountability and improvement in a particular school year-over-year. Each school is ranked from one to five stars, with ranks assessing school performance data, as required under the federal Every Student Succeeds Act.

The rankings released Friday evening have not been tabulated since 2019. because of the pandemic, the federal government didn't require state testing in 2020. And in 2021, RIDE got a waiver from the accountability rankings, even though state testing did happen.

Officials with RIDE said the majority of the more than 300 public and charter schools ranked saw their rankings stay the same as they were in 2019. A total of 29 schools saw their rankings increase, while 96 saw their rankings drop by at least one star.

"To stem the broader impact of the pandemic, we are committed to working closely with school leaders to continue to build and expand programs to help our schools accelerate learning and guide our students forward," state Education Commissioner Angélica Infante-Green said in a statement.

Just nine school districts had a five-star school. Those districts were Barrington, Coventry, Cumberland, East Greenwich, Glocester, Lincoln, North Kingstown, Scituate and South Kingstown.
