Newport Shuts Down Easton Beach Due To Hurricane Erin
Staff and lifeguards will be on site to keep people out of the water, according to the city.
NEWPORT, RI — Easton Beach was closed off to the public due to Hurricane Erin.
The city of Newport announced the closure in a Facebook post Wednesday night.
"With Hurricane Erin expected to churn up dangerous rip currents and heavy surf, Easton's Beach will be closed beginning tonight at 9 pm and swimming will be off-limits until the storm passes and conditions improve," the post said.

Staff and lifeguards were to be posted at the beach to keep people out of the water, make announcements as necessary and answer calls to beach office line, the post said.
Along with Easton, Second and Third beaches in Middletown were closed down.

While the hurricane was expected to remain offshore, the post said, "its size and strength will create significant and hazardous conditions for the state."
