Newport Superintendent Of Schools Jermain Stepping Down
Colleen Burns Jermain announced she is leaving her position at the end of the school year.
NEWPORT, RI — Superintendent of Newport Public Schools Colleen Burns Jermain is stepping down, according to a media release.
Jermain announced her departure following the end of the school year during Thursday's meeting of the Newport School Committee, the release said. Her resignation is effective June 30 and caps a 12 year tenure leading the district.

“On behalf of the Newport School Committee, I want to thank Colleen for her years of dedicated service to Newport Public Schools,” Committee Chair James Dring said in the release.

“Under Colleen’s leadership the district has seen an expanded Pell Elementary and the construction of our brand new, state-of-the-art Rogers High School," Dring said, wishing "her the best in her future endeavors.”
Jermain called her time at the helm of Newport's schools an "honor."

“I am grateful for the many wonderful community partnerships we have built to benefit our students, the generosity of so many who have supported us through the development of innovative new learning experiences, and the broad community support for the construction of our Pell Elementary addition and our beautiful new Rogers High School," Jermain said in the release.

"I am proud of what we have built for our students and for our community," she said. "While I will no longer serve as Superintendent at the conclusion of the 2025-2026 school year, I will always be here to support Newport Public Schools."
