Pell Bridge Run To Cause Traffic Delays In Newport

Early morning travelers should leave extra time on Saturday.

NEWPORT, RI — Expect delays on the Newport Pell Bridge Saturday, as runner make their way across. The annual Pell Bridge Run is expected to cause traffic delays throughout the morning hours.

The race is set to get underway at 7 a.m., though police will start blocking off some roads at 6:30 a.m. During the race, no pedestrians except registered runners will be allowed on any part of the bridge.

The following roads will have closures or detours during the race:

  • Farewell Street: closed through America's Cup Boulevard from 7:15 a.m. to 8:45 a.m., expect delays through 9 a.m.
  • America's Cup Boulevard: Expect delays until 9 a.m.
  • Van Zandt Avenue: Closed to traffic at the corner of Farewell Street
  • Pell Bridge: Traffic will be reduced to one alternating lane from 7 a.m. to 8:15 a.m. Commercial trucks and buses will not be allowed on the bridge during the race.
