Pell School Student Threatens To 'Shoot Up' School: Newport

The 8-year-old was suspended Monday for writing a threatening message on a bathroom stall. But police determined there was no danger.

NEWPORT, RI—Police investigated a threat at Pell Elementary School on Monday. According to the police log, school officials called police at 11:49 a.m. Lt. Frank Rosa said an 8-year-old took a marker and wrote a message on a bathroom stall. The message referred to "shooting up the school," he said. Teachers called his family, and the adults determined it was an empty threat and the child had no way of following through.

No charges are being pressed, police said. But the youngster has been suspended. His name is not being released.

Last week, police searched Rogers High after students reported a Snap Chat threat had been made. The school was on vacation, and there were no messages or weapons found inside the building. Police said they do not have a suspect.
