Police Log: Police Find Steak Knife, Crack in Man's Pocket; 3 Other Arrests

The following is based on reports from the Newport Police Department. An arrest does not indicate a conviction.

Nels E. Berghman Jr., 20, of Newport, was arrested around 1:45 p.m. on Wednesday, March 27, for domestic vandalism, drug possession and a weapons charge.

According to the victim, Berghman was throwing things around her apartment.

Reports said that when police searched Berghman, they found crack cocaine in his pocket and a steak knife in the pocket of his sweatshirt.

Other arrests

  • Stacy P. Ward, 32, of Newport, was arrested around 12 a.m. on Thursday, March 28, for domestic simple assault, domestic disorderly conduct, resisting arrest and two simple assault charges.
  • Matthew C. Nadeau, 35, of Newport, was arrested around 5:12 a.m. on Thursday, March 27, for two shoplifting charges.
  • Daniel Morgenweck, 25, of 267 Kingston Road, Narragansett, was arrested around 4:15 p.m. on Wednesday, March 27, for an active bench warrant.
