RI Businesses 'Mixed' About New Mask, Vaccine Rules
The RI Hospitality Association said the "overriding concern is for the staff who will now be on the front lines of enforcement."

PROVIDENCE, RI — Local businesses are "mixed" in their support of the state's upcoming mask and vaccine requirements, the Rhode Island Hospitality Association said Wednesday.
"A recent survey of the RI Hospitality Association’s membership showed mixed results on mandatory mask and vaccine mandates in hospitality businesses," President Dale Venturini said. "The overriding concern is for the staff who will now be on the front lines of enforcement."
Gov. Dan McKee announced the new measures Wednesday. Starting Monday, temporary requirements for mask-wearing and proof of COVID-19 vaccination will be in place in the state, for at least 30 days.

Venturini said his organization "represent[s] an industry that is in the business of accommodating all people," and that businesses around the state are continuing to meet the needs of customers, despite regulations put in place throughout the pandemic.
"Our industry continues to work hard to fulfill consumer demand, provide the best guest experience possible, and follow best practices to keep patrons and staff safe; all while working long hours due to staff shortages," Venturini continued. "While we appreciate that today’s mandates give smaller businesses the ability to choose checking vaccinations or mandating masks, providing a choice to implement a system that best works for their business, we ask customers to please be respectful of staff who are only doing what is being required of them."
